Tom WendorfDuPage Impact Manager
Tom Wendorf has over 30 years of corporate management experience as a District Sales Manager with Simmons Company in Minneapolis, Regional VP and General Manager of the Simmons Company for the Kansas City region, and Executive Vice President of National Sales, Marketing and Advertising for Restonic Corporation in Chicago.
During the last 10 years of his career, Tom owned and operated a local direct mail marketing company in Oak Park. He sold that business in 2010 and retired.
In 2009, Tom ran for Trustee of the College of DuPage, and in 2010 he ran for DuPage County Board, driven by his desire for public service and to make DuPage County a better place to raise our families.
In 2011, Mr. Wendorf developed a passion for helping under- and unemployed people get jobs in manufacturing when he did research while leading the DuPage United Jobs Task Force. He found a significant gap in DuPage where many good jobs in manufacturing go unfilled. This led to him founding Career Connect Metro West in 2014, a nonprofit organization that connects good people to good jobs in the western suburbs.
Tom currently serves on the Illinois Workforce Innovation Board, the DuPage County Workforce Board, and the Steering Committee of the Illinois P-20 Council. The P-20 Council was founded in 2009 to advise both elected and staff state policymakers on the key workforce development issues connecting education in Illinois to employers and available jobs.
He is Past President of the Madison Street Theatre Board in Oak Park, and former Board Member of the Oak Park River Forest Chamber of Commerce.
Tom lives in Glen Ellyn with his wife Mickey, a retired Professor of Accounting at DePaul University. She is a non-practicing CPA, and holds MBA and MS degrees. Mickey retired in 2016.
